Your petition for a domestic violence injunction must be very specific. It is vital that you not minimize the violence that you experienced in the relationship. It is not enough to state you were pushed or slapped. The petition must include every detail of every incident, including:

- Where and when incidents happened
- Whether the abuser was drunk or under the influence of drugs
- Any threatening statements
